Breathing Visualizer for Therapy Sessions

An animated breathing pacer to practise with clients in session or send to them between sessions. The circle grows as you breathe in and shrinks as you breathe out, with a countdown for each phase.

How to use it in session

  1. Choose a pattern. Extended exhale and coherent breathing are gentle places to start.
  2. Pick a session length and whether you want a soft tone at each change.
  3. Press Start and breathe along with the circle. Use full screen for a calmer view.
  4. Afterwards, ask your client what they noticed in their body.

Features

  • Box breathing, triangle, 4-7-8, coherent (5.5 s), extended exhale (4-6), physiological sigh and custom timings
  • Phase label, countdown and progress ring
  • Optional soft audio cues
  • Three colour themes and full-screen mode

Safety and scope

Breath holds can be uncomfortable for some people, including those with panic, respiratory conditions or trauma histories. Offer choices and let clients breathe at their own pace.

Frequently asked questions

Which breathing pattern is most calming?

Patterns with a longer out-breath, such as extended exhale or coherent breathing, are often experienced as calming. Choose what feels comfortable for your client.

What if my client feels light-headed?

Return to normal breathing. Shorter phases or skipping breath holds can help.
